Is EGR Removal Legal?
EGR removal is not illegal, but here at ECU-Flash we only offer the service for vehicles that are for off-road use only. Though it is legal for you to have your EGR removed from your vehicle. It goes against the road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to drive a vehicle that has been modified in this way to no longer comply with air pollutant emissions standards. The penalties for not complying with this regulation could result in a fine of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.
EGR Problems
A vehicle’s EGR valve is constantly in operation. It is because they are constantly burning exhaust gases.
They also have a high soot content. The soot can cause a buildup of carbon around the EGR valve area which results in the valve becoming stuck in different positions. For your engine to perform at its fullest potential the EGR valve is kept closed. This creates a loop environment for your turbo system, allowing it to build pressure. A faulty EGR valve will create an open-loop environment, this results in feedback to the intake manifold. Therefore, leading to issues with power and fuel economy.
