Should You Buy a New Car or Remap Your Old one?

Everyone has been there. You’re sitting in your car at the traffic lights and you can’t be bothered any longer; your car isn’t fast enough, it doesn’t have Bluetooth or any other valuable piece of tech, and it doesn’t sound as punchy as it once did, and it doesn’t look as good as it did on the forecourt all of those years ago. At this point, you’re downloading the Autotrader app and starting to look for a sporty new car. Is this necessary when you can simply remap your old reliable car though?

Why Should You Remap?

The most common reason people become frustrated with their car is through a lack of performance. It can be heartbreaking to be overtaken by a car that is twenty years older than yours or to be unable to overtake an elderly lady in her diesel people carrier. But there’s no need to be sad, remapping is here to help. Car ownership can be revitalised with remapping. Since its beginnings in 2004, ECU-Flash has established itself as one of the UK’s leading performance and economy tuning specialists, collaborating with tuning companies from all over the world.

To improve performance, we can remap your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU). We accomplish this by either removing the ECU from the vehicle and modifying the software (a process known as chip tuning) or by connecting to your vehicle’s OBD port. Here’s what we can accomplish:

  • A remap on a non-turbo engine will lead to a 10% increase in power and torque, as well as a sleeker power band.
  • A remap on a turbo petrol engine will lead to a 20% – 30% increase in power and torque, as well as a smoother power band.
  • A turbo-diesel engine remap will lead to a 20% – 30% increase in power and a 25% – 40% increase in torque.

Is Remapping Right for You?

Increases in low-end pulling power (torque) and top-end power (horsepower) will revolutionise the way you drive your car, regardless of engine type. You won’t have to plan ahead of time when trying to overtake, and you won’t have any problems keeping up with faster traffic. The biggest difference you’ll notice after a remap is how smoothly your car delivers power; it’ll feel faster across the rev range, which will put a smile back on your face. It will feel as if you are driving a completely different vehicle.
