OBD Programming

Software updates, variant coding, and configuration changes carried out via the diagnostic port. The standard method for most in-vehicle ECU programming work.

Bench Programming

ECU removed and programmed outside the vehicle on the bench. Used when OBD access is limited, the ECU is not communicating, or when direct read/write access is required.

Boot / BDM Programming

Direct access to ECU processor memory using dedicated boot or BDM interfaces. Required for ECUs that cannot be accessed via OBD or standard bench connections.

ECU Replacement Programming

New, refurbished, or second-hand ECUs require full programming to the vehicle — VIN coding, immobiliser pairing, variant coding, and software configuration.

Software Updates

Manufacturer software updates for ECUs — applied correctly using the genuine OEM tool for each make, not third-party flashers.

Custom Programming

Custom ECU software for performance, fuel economy, AdBlue/SCR configuration, speed limiter settings, and other parameter adjustments where supported.

What is the difference between OBD, bench, and BDM programming?

OBD programming uses the vehicle's diagnostic port — the ECU stays in the vehicle. Bench programming requires removing the ECU and connecting it directly on a bench. BDM (Background Debug Mode) connects directly to the ECU processor for ECUs that won't respond to normal bench access. Each method is used for different situations depending on the ECU type and condition.

What vehicles do you cover for ECU programming?

Commercial trucks (DAF, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes, Renault, Iveco), agricultural machinery, cars, vans, and specialist vehicles. Coverage depends on the ECU make and our current tool access for that platform.

Can ECU programming be done remotely?

OBD programming can often be carried out remotely using our remote programming kit — we send you the module, you connect it to the vehicle OBD port, and our engineers program the ECU from Doncaster. Bench and BDM work requires the ECU to be brought to our workshop.

What if my ECU has been partially programmed and won't start?

This is an ECU recovery situation. We have the tools and experience to recover ECUs from interrupted or corrupted programming states — via OBD, bench, or BDM methods depending on the ECU condition. See our ECU Recovery page.

Will my immobiliser still work after ECU replacement programming?

Yes — immobiliser pairing is part of the ECU replacement programming process. We match the replacement ECU to the vehicle's existing immobiliser configuration.
