Speed Limiter Programming

Speed Limiter
Programming

Speed limiter configuration for HGVs, trucks, vans, and selected light-commercial vehicles. We confirm the vehicle, ECU access and intended use before any manufacturer-level programming.

Speed Limiter Programming

Speed limiter programming is a software-level process carried out using manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment. Unlike mechanical speed limiters on older vehicles, modern commercial vehicle speed limiters are controlled through the ECU (Engine Control Unit) and require specialist tools to adjust.

ECUFLASH carry out speed limiter programming for HGVs, trucks, vans, and selected light-commercial vehicles from our Doncaster workshop, or remotely where the vehicle supports it. Passenger cars are not a standard speed-limiter service: the registration check keeps the offer aligned with the vehicle's actual system.

Each programming job is specific to the vehicle, ECU type, and the customer's documented requirements. We advise on the correct parameters before starting work.

Programming Scenarios

We carry out speed limiter programming across a range of scenarios. All work is documented and completed to the customer's specific requirements.

Factory Limit Review & Configuration

Some commercial vehicles are supplied with fleet or application-specific speed settings. We review the vehicle, its intended use, and the applicable requirements before confirming whether an approved configuration change is possible.

Operator / Fleet Limit Changes

Fleet operators can request speed limiter programming changes for vehicles used under operator licence conditions — for example, adjusting settings when a vehicle moves to a different fleet or duty cycle.

Off-Road & Motorsport Applications

Vehicles operating exclusively off public roads under controlled conditions may have different speed limiter requirements. Programming can be adjusted for off-road, private-land, or competition applications.

Manufacturer Software Updates

Following ECU software updates or replacements, speed limiter parameters are sometimes reset to default. We restore the correct configuration using manufacturer-level diagnostic equipment.

Manufacturer-Level Equipment

Speed limiter parameters in modern commercial vehicles are locked to manufacturer-level access. Programming requires the correct OEM diagnostic software for each make — not generic aftermarket tools.

Passenger-car speed-assist systems are not a standard programming service. For vans and every commercial vehicle, coverage depends on ECU type, manufacturer access and the vehicle's intended use.

Remote Speed Limiter Programming

Where supported, speed limiter programming can be carried out remotely for eligible vans and commercial vehicles. We post you a programming module — you connect it to the vehicle OBD port, and our engineers complete the work from Doncaster.

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles do you cover for speed limiter programming?

This is primarily a commercial-vehicle service: HGVs, trucks, vans and selected light-commercial vehicles. Many passenger-car speed-assist systems are not programmable through this service, so we do not list speed limiter programming as a standard car option. Enter your registration and we will confirm the exact vehicle scope.

What equipment do you use?

We use manufacturer-specific dealer-level diagnostic systems for each make — DAF DAVIE, Scania SDP3, Volvo PTT, Man-cats, and equivalents. Not generic OBD readers.

Is this available as a remote programming service?

Yes. Where the vehicle ECU supports remote access, we can carry out speed limiter programming via our remote tool kit — the tool connects to the vehicle OBD port and our engineers complete the work from Doncaster.

How long does speed limiter programming take?

Programming typically takes under an hour once connected. If the vehicle is at our Doncaster workshop we can often complete it on the same day. Remote sessions are booked in advance.

Do you offer advice on the correct legal limit for my vehicle?

Yes. Speed limiter requirements vary by vehicle class and country of registration. Contact us and we will advise on the correct parameters for your specific vehicle.
