DPF
Services

DPF fault diagnosis, forced regeneration, and ECU programming for diesel cars, vans, trucks, and commercial vehicles. Accurate diagnosis before any recommendations.

DPF Faults Explained

The Diesel Particulate Filter captures soot particles produced during combustion. A built-in regeneration process burns off accumulated soot by briefly raising exhaust temperatures. If regeneration cycles repeatedly fail — due to short journeys, sensor faults, or related system issues — the filter becomes overloaded and the DPF warning light illuminates.

Not every DPF warning light means the filter is mechanically blocked or needs replacement. Many faults are caused by failed temperature or pressure sensors, EGR problems preventing regeneration, or fuel system issues. Diagnosis first — before any parts are ordered or replaced.

ECUFLASH carry out DPF diagnostics using manufacturer-specific equipment, giving us access to live DPF soot load, ash load, differential pressure, and temperature data — information not available on generic OBD readers.

Our Diagnostic Approach

1

Live Data Diagnosis

We connect manufacturer-level diagnostic equipment and read live DPF data — soot load percentage, ash load, differential pressure, temperature, and any stored fault codes. This tells us the true condition of the DPF.

2

Regeneration Attempt

Where the DPF is loaded but not mechanically blocked, we carry out a forced static regeneration using the OEM tool. This burns off accumulated soot and may restore normal operation without further intervention.

3

Fault Code Interpretation

Some DPF codes are caused by sensor failures (differential pressure sensor, temperature sensors), EGR faults affecting regeneration, or injector issues rather than a physically blocked filter. We identify whether the DPF itself is the cause.

4

ECU Adaptations

Following regeneration or component work, ECU adaptations are reset using OEM software. Any additional programming request is assessed against the vehicle, its use and technical suitability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DPF?

The Diesel Particulate Filter captures soot particles from diesel exhaust before they reach the atmosphere. Over time, accumulated soot must be burned off in a process called regeneration. If regeneration fails repeatedly, the filter becomes blocked.

Why does DPF regeneration fail?

Regeneration requires the exhaust to reach a high temperature for a sustained period. Short urban journeys prevent this from happening. Faults in the EGR, injectors, temperature sensors, or fuel system can also prevent successful regeneration.

Can you clear a blocked DPF without replacement?

In many cases yes — if the DPF is loaded but not chemically contaminated or mechanically damaged, a forced static regeneration carried out on our diagnostic equipment can restore it. We assess the condition before recommending any course of action.

What vehicles do you cover?

We cover the full range of diesel commercial vehicles (DAF, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes, Renault, Iveco) as well as diesel cars and vans. Coverage depends on ECU type and manufacturer diagnostic access.

Is DPF work available remotely?

Forced regeneration requires the vehicle to be present because the engine must run under controlled conditions. Some diagnostic review, ECU adaptations and code-clearing work can be discussed for supported vehicles — contact us with the vehicle details and fault information.
